I promise to let you know my experience at the Fremont location in the near future. Overall, I really enjoy this place and can’t wait to eat here again! I highly recommend it! The closest restaurant to where I live is about 20 miles away, but I am going to make the effort to eat there and see if the quality in both food and service appears across the chain, or if the Signal Hill location is special.

Another plus when dining here, is that you can order breakfast, lunch, or dinner at any time of the day.

The décor may be a bit over the top in its abundance of bear art, but it works. Both waiters we had were nice and attentive, even though the restaurant was packed each visit. The host staff was friendly and competent. They are a little slow in getting the food out, but not so much that it warrants a reprimand. The service was fantastic on both visits. The restaurant is not very big and it seems that no matter what time of day you go, there is a wait though, not a very long one. The onions were tender and not at all tough. Chose the onion rings side and they were cooked to crispy perfection. Here it was beautifully bright green and creamy just as an avocado should be. One of my huge restaurant issues is the black avocado that they often serve. The burger was bigger than the bun and had perfect avocado on it.

Spicy Turkey Burger $ 8.99 – Grilled turkey burger, pepper jack cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and green chili mayo.

I chose the side of fries again, and though they were not as crispy as the first time, they were still quite good.

This sandwich has their delicious tri-tip in it, so had to go with it on my second visit.

French Dip Sandwich $8.99 – Thinly sliced roast beef stacked on a French roll with au jus.

We enjoyed our first meal here so much that we decided to stop for lunch again at the end of our trip.

Will try the Bear Claw next time, because I joined their e-club and they send you a coupon for one and a cup of coffee. The whipped cream was good, but that does not warrant ever getting it again. Unfortunately, the bananas were brown the crust had no taste and was tough & dry rather than flaky. $1 went to the Make a Wish Foundation, so that’s a plus that I support. Banana Cream Pie $4.99 – Looks beautiful, taste not so much.We chose the fries and they were nice shoestring style cut potatoes that were wonderfully crispy, just the way I like them. With the sandwiches, you have a choice of one side, either french fries, onion rings, potato salad, cole slaw, green salad, or a cup of soup. We shared this meal and they did a split plate without us asking and without any additional charge. The bacon was crisp without having to ask and the turkey was moist and tasty. Turkey Club Sandwich $8.99 – A traditional triple-decker sandwich of roasted turkey breast, bacon, ham, tomato, lettuce, and mayonnaise on toasted white bread.Definitely a hearty meal for being on the lighter fare menu. Along with the meat, you receive mashed potatoes with gravy and vegetables.

The beef was delicious and tender, nicely seasoned, and cooked to perfection. With these smaller portion entrées, you still receive either a cup of soup or a salad to start.

Little Less Tri-Tip Dinner $10.99 – This was plenty of food for one person, even though it is on the little less menu.

Their philosophy of quality, hearty portions, and friendly service is something that should be embraced by more eateries, as that seems to have fallen by the wayside many places these days. Here you will find large portions of tasty, down home cooking, just the way casual dining should be experienced. Since that time, that lone restaurant has grown into a chain that covers much of the western United States. The restaurant was started in 1995 with a single location in Mt. But, seriously, who hates cute pictures and carvings of black bears? Actually, the murals are beautiful and I think most people will appreciate the discovery of unique bear items in every corner of the restaurant. If you hate bears, this is probably not the place for you. The diner is adorable with bear décor everywhere you look. I have been seeing the commercials for Black Bear Diner for quite some time now, but there aren’t any close to me, so when I discovered one on the drive to Disneyland, I had to give it a try.
